Welcome to the Manchester Badminton League website.
Our aim is to provide and promote competitive badminton for adults on the League principles for clubs in Manchester, and to arrange matches, tournaments and other events for our member clubs.
If you are new to the area and want to find out about joining one of our clubs go to the Clubs page here. This page has a list of the current League Clubs, where they play, and who to contact should you require further information. Please visit the website of the club you are interested in via the clubs page, for full contact details. If you are enquiring about badminton for Juniors please contact your nearest sports centre in the first place, or the local authority sports organisers in your area e.g. Trafford Leisure.
We have vacancies if your club would like to join our League, either the Main League or Open Division.

The League are to trial a new Open Division this season.
A team in this division will consist of any combination of six players of any gender; e.g. 4 men and 2 women, six men, six ladies etc.

at David Lloyd, Trafford Park, Manchester M17 8RH, commencing at 7:30pm prompt.
Any trophies and towels for the 2019-20 season league and tournaments that have not yet been presented will also be handed out at this meeting.

Following a recent committee meeting, it has been decided that the 2020-21 season will not start before the New Year.
A further meeting will take place in the New Year to review the options available to us to play some form of competitive badminton. We welcome any updates on your clubs venue availability, plans to return to play and suggestions for play format on the restart, just drop Adrian a note

The committee have made the following decisions re season 2019-20.We are closing the season with promotions and relegations as follows:
Division 1
Champions: Forest 1
Runners up: Edgeley 1
Relegated: GHAP and Forest 3
Division 2
Champions: Disley 1
Runners Up: Carrington 1
Promote both teams to Division 1
Relegated: Nettles 1
Division 3
Joint Champions: Dome and Heys both promoted to Division 2
Relegated: Roe Green 1
Division 4
Champions: Nettles 2
Runners Up Silver Feather 2
Promote both teams to Division 3
Please note that if there are significant changes to the number of teams, we may need to review some of these promotions and relegations, in order to balance up the number of teams in each division.
Hopefully we will be able to start the new season in October.
Keep fit and look after yourselves.

ALL MATCHES CANCELLED
In line with the Government announcement this afternoon to stop all non-essential social contact the committee have taken the decision to cancel all remaining fixtures for this season with immediate effect.The Marjorie Consterdine Tournament and the Presentation Evening have also been cancelled.
The committee will work on finalising league tables and will let everyone the outcome.
Hopefully we will be able to start the new season in September.

They have also changed match nights and now play on a Thursday 8pm - 10pm.
Unfortunately they have had to drop their 2nd team. We hope to see them back in the league next season.

The merger between PVBC and Silver Feather has not gone through.
Silver Feather will continue to field 3 teams, 2 in Div 3 and 1 in Div 4.
Unfortunately PVBC are folding.

Following a complaint about unsporting behaviour on court, the League ask all players and spectators adopt fair sporting behaviour on and off court during matches.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Keith Moore, of Forest Badminton Club, passed away last week.
He was always a gentleman on court not only to his partners but his opponents. His enjoyment and enthusiasm for the game will be missed
His funeral will be held on:
Monday 7th December
Christ Church, Thorley Lane, Timperley, WA15 7AN at 1.30.
Followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium at 3.00 and a wake afterwards to reminisce.
The family have asked for any donations to go to St. Ann’s Hospice, as they looked after Keith and the family so well during his illness.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends

With deep sadness I have to report the passing away of John Everett and Norma Holden. John stepped down as the Leagues President at the end of last season after 40 year service. Norma was Match Secretary and a committed member of Dome Badminton Club. They will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends

The knockout stages of the Slann cup have been completed and we have our finalists. The Slann Cup final will be between Medlock and Forest 1 and the Plate between GHAP 1 and Nettles. Full results are available on the Slann Cup page.
The final will be held 7pm Thursday 19th February at David Lloyd Manchester. Supporters are welcome.
